Fall Ribbon Ride September 21st at 2:00

MDH is sponsoring a Fall Ribbon Ride for our moms and daughters at Riverside State Park. The event is free, you just need to sign the liability waiver before you begin your ride. We will tie about four ribbons on trees throughout the park, depending on the number of donations that come in before the ride, and the daughters (18 and under) get to ride out and find them!! Moms should accompany their daughters, but only daughters will be able to claim the prizes this time. Those who find a ribbon and bring it back to the starting area, will get a prize.

The ride itself is very easy--no water crossings--and lasts about 2 hours total. We park at the trailhead off of Old Trails Rd where there is an entrance to trail #25 that leads down into the valley. We'll give each group a map of the area before you start.

The date is Sunday September 21st at 2:00 pm.

Please bring a lunch/dinner to enjoy afterward as we have a tailgate social and wait for all the riders to get in.

Hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please contact Tiki.

Directions: (Please Google it to get a better idea before you leave your house. Type in Old Trails Rd Spokane WA and you will get the section of map you need. Follow Old Trails Rd to where it turns into N. Inland Rd, and that is where the trail head will be.)

Coming from the North or East you can come from either 7 Mile Rd or Trails Rd--

The South Entrance--Take W Northwest Blvd turn right to W Fort George Wright Dr.(It will pass Spokane Fall Community College) take another right to N. Government Way which turns into Trails Rd--a mile up and toward the top--Old Trails Rd to the right. It turns into N. Inland Rd as it approaches the park--the trailhead is at the end of the pavement when it turns into gravel road.

The North Entrance--West on 7 Mile Rd. to N. Inland Rd (there will be a sign that points left to the ORV--follow it and PASS the ORV--at the end of the gravel road you'll find the trailhead.

Places to Ride Horses in Spokane, WA--West

Hi Horse Friends--

Today's blog from MDH is meant to generate discussion of GREAT places to take our horses locally and get in a good, hopefully beautiful, ride.

There are two on the West Side of Spokane that we recommend--one is Palisades Park and the other is Riverside State Park.

First, Palisades. Palisades park is near Indian Canyon Golf Course at the end of Greenwood Rd., Basalt, and Rimrock Dr. Take Hwy 2 to Basalt and it will end up at Greenwood and Rimrock. There is a place to park trailers there--you could probably get six. The parking area is across the street from the entrance. This area is closed off to vehicles and overlooks the entire city of Spokane and Mt. Spokane. There is a loop that takes about an hour to ride--there are also trails down into the canyon, and a creek crossing. The Rimrock area is an extremely easy trail, and great for beginners.

Second, Riverside. Riverside State Park has two good entrances--one from Audrey White off of Trails Rd. and the other, also off of Trails Rd., to Old Trails Rd. The first is an easy entrance near the bottom of trails and it's the old Trail Town Stables area. You can ride along the river and take trails that go 25 miles--clear up to 9 mile and back. There's lots and lots of trailer parking and a restroom. The second trailhead is off of Old Trails Rd and about 4 miles from the turn off at Trails Rd. There is a nice place to park trailers and then walk into the park--follow the trail markers to trail #25 and it is the same one that goes for 25 miles. If you take it to the left, you go toward Deep Creek--if you take it to the right, it goes down into the Bowl and Pitcher. #25 is a beginner trail also. It's rocky in places, but most of it is wide open and tracks along the mountain side and then slopes down gently into the valley.

Welcome Ladies

Welcome to a new edition of “Barn Talk” the blog for Mom’s Daughters and Horses. My name is Samantha and I am the President of MDH.

Let me tell you a little about me and then we can move onto more exciting things. I am 37 years old I don’t have a daughter but I am someone’s daughter so I fit right in with this group. Just wanted to let you know you don’t have to be a mom to be in our club you just have to love horses that is all. I own 2 of the critters myself, Tug is a 10 year old Appaloosa gelding, and if you have seen him you are probably thinking Appaloosa? Yes he is an Appaloosa he just forgot to grow his spots haha. Mercedes is a 9 year old Polish Arabian mare I have owned both of them approximately 6 ½ years and they are my babies. I currently also am mom to a 6 year old Sheltie named Emma and we all live in the Spokane Valley.

This club is full of wonderful ladies and we all come from different areas, ranging as far north as Newport, Wa to as far South as Plummer, Id. And everyone has different disciplines they do but most everyone is also a trail rider. We as a club meet once a month during the off riding season and during the summer we meet every other month as everyone is pretty busy doing things with their horses and families. We have had one trail ride and are looking forward to having more in the near future. Next year we hope to get together a few more trail rides and maybe a play day. I look forward to helping bring this club along as it grows and is able to put on more club events and become a bigger part of the community.

To end this so I don’t bore you too much with my chatter I wanted to let everyone know that there are 2 shows this coming weekend: one is The Arab Community Show at Spur of the Moment in Deer Park and is open to anyone who would like to attend for more information please call 509-935-8911 or go to http://www.ieahc.org/. Next is a schooling show at Lady Raven Stables for more information please call 509-466-6075, 509-953-4511, or 509-590-8410.

Thank you all and if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me or one of the board members and they would be happy to answer them for you.
